IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men's and women's basketball teams both ranked in the top 25 for national attendance for the 2022-2023 season, with the women nearly taking the top spot.
The women's program ranked second nationally, only behind South Carolina, and welcomed a total of 200,569 fans to Carver-Hawkeye Arena last season. That is an average of 11,143 fans per game during the Hawkeyes 18 home contests. Iowa also led the country in games played with over 13,000 fans. The last three games played inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena were sellouts with Iowa's game over Indiana totaling 15, 056 fans. Six of the women's basketball eight sellout crowds have happened in the last two seasons.
The Hawkeye women went 31-7 overall and made a magical NCAA tournament run to the National Championship Game, falling to LSU 102-85.
The women's program has been ranked in the top 10 for national attendance for the past four seasons and the No. 2 ranking is the highest under head coach Lisa Bluder. The Hawkeyes also helped draw the largest crowd in Big Ten Tournament Championship history with 9,505 fans.
The men's program ranked 24th nationally and welcomed a total of 210,305 fans to Carver-Hawkeye Arena last season. An average of 12,371 fans attended the men's 17 home contests.
The Hawkeye men went 19-14 and lost in the first round of the tournament to Auburn 83-75.
