WAVERLY, Iowa – Scott Schara is at the helm of a juggernaut school in Iowa high school girls soccer as head coach of Waverly-Shell Rock.

Since Schara initially took the reigns of the program in 2004, the team qualified for state 16 of the past 18 seasons. After leaving in 2012 to focus on being on Wartburg girls soccer's coaching staff, his former assistant coach Lauren Greiner sustained the team's excellence and lead Waverly-Shell Rock to its first ever state title in 2021 before she stepped down due to pregnancy.

Schara got the opportunity to coach the Go-Hawks once again November 2021, bringing former Wartburg players he coached with him as assistants. Despite the change in leadership, the team's success never wavered, reaching the state championship game every year since 2018, including Schara's first season back as coach last season.

Now Waverly-Shell Rock looks destined to contend for a state title once again, ranked in the top five in Class 2A while currently undefeated and not conceding a goal yet this season, making Scott Schara Iowa's News Now's latest Ed Thomas Coach of the Week.
