AMES, Iowa (IOWA'S NEWS NOW) — Instead of a battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy in 2020, Matt Campbell and Iowa State will host a team they've only played once before.
The Cyclones are set to welcome the Ball State Cardinals to Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday, September 12 - the day Iowa State was scheduled to play Iowa in Iowa City heading into the 2020 season. The Hawkeyes will not play any non-conference games this year, part of the Big Ten Conference's pandemic schedule plans.
Ball State's agreement with ISU also comes courtesy of the Big Ten's plans. The Cardinals were set to play Michigan in Ann Arbor that same day.
Iowa State won the only other match-up between the programs - a 38-0 win in 1998.
