SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX26) — The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is returning to San Diego Thursday, July 9th.
The carrier is ending its deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
More than 6,000 Sailors from Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11 deployed Jan. 17 to conduct operations in the Indo-Pacific and maintain security and stability in the region.
The Roosevelt was sidelined more than two months after a coronavirus outbreak onboard the carrier.
More than 1,100 sailors were infected with COVID-19 and one sailor died.
The outbreak led to the firing of Captain Brett Crozier after he sent a memo to Navy leaders, saying that COVID-19 had started to spread among crew members of the ship.
