A Cedar Rapids woman who drove her car with her two children inside into near freezing water in the Cedar River has pleaded guilty.

35-year-old Alicia Cole pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury.

Cole admitted to intentionally driving her vehicle into the river near the Mohawk boat ramp on March 11. Boaters on the river were able to rescue Cole and her two children from the sinking car and helped them onto their ski boats. One of the children suffered a head contusion while the other suffered abdominal pain.

Cole's vehicle was recovered two weeks later by dive crews.

Cole faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, but could receive probation or a deferred. Linn County prosecutors did not making a recommendation for sentencing, leaving it up to a judge.

Cole's sentencing date is Dec. 4.
