CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) — Wednesday, Dec. 19 marks the 39th anniversary of one cold case that still haunts the Corridor.
Michelle Martinko was brutally murdered in her car when she took a trip to Westdale Mall back in 1979 to do some Christmas shopping. Martinko was an 18-year-old high school senior at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.
In 2017, the Cedar Rapids Police Department unveiled new composites of what the suspect could have looked like at a young and an old age. The police department has reached dozens of tips.
“I believe that someone in this community knows something about this case. There is someone here who either knows more than they are willing to admit or knows something that they don't realize is important," said lead investigator Matt Denlinger "We need those people to come forward and give us that information so we can bring closure to this case and to Michelle's family."
The reward for information leading to an arrest in Michelle Martinko’s death is now more than $15,000. Anyone with even the smallest detail is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME.
