Waverly man dies from fireworks-related injury
WAVERLY, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) —
A 18-year-old from Waverly has died after sustaining injuries from setting off fireworks.
The Bremer County Sheriff's Office says they were called to an address from a fireworks injury in rural Waverly around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Authorities say a firework malfunctioned and exploded on the ground instead of the air, hitting Coltin Carolus. Other people were around, but were no injured.
Carolus was taken to a local hospital before being transported to Covenant Hospital while on life support. Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, he was taken off of life support.
Officials say his organs were donated.
