Waterloo gets Medical Marijuana Dispensary
Waterloo will be the only city with a marijuana dispensary in Eastern Iowa as Iowa Cannabis Company is expected to accept their license to operate.
21 locations were considered including three in the Corridor: Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Coralville. Waterloo was the only one deemed qualified for a license.
“We are excited for the opportunity to serve the community of Waterloo and Eastern Iowa,” Aaron Boshart of the Iowa Cannabis Company said in a statement today. “We believe that safe and equal access to medical cannabidiol for all patients in Iowa should be the highest priority.
It also means a lot to the City, as Mayor Quentin Hart expects the dispensary to be an economic boost for the region.
“If its attracting people to the Cedar Valley from all different parts of state then that can have an economic part as well,” Hart said. "There is businesses, restaurants there are so many different areas that this can have a residual benefit from."
Right now the company is looking to open up their dispensary around December of this year. The Department Of Health has officially notified them they got the license and they now have 24 hours to accept it, which according to sources has already happened.
“This is amazing for the citizens that live in the cedar Valley,” Hart said. “ I am just hoping people can get the help that they need and any type of new legal treatments I am Absolutely in support of it.”
