CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) - Summer may be speeding to an end, but not before two major events in Cedar Rapids. Friday afternoon the Crown Rally rolls into town with some of the coolest cars in the world. The race across the Midwest runs from Minneapolis to Nashville and more than 100 cars cruise into the downtown after 5:00 PM.

Taylor McGurk with GO CR says it should be an epic block party, “ Think Farmers’ Market only with ten million dollars worth of vehicles from all over the Midwest instead of produce. Of the 100 plus cars here with the Crown Rally, about 33-percent of them are either McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari or Porsche. So when we say 10-million dollars worth of cars it’s not an exaggeration.”

The event is free, but the money raised surrounding it has meant more than $100,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation and Athletes versus Epilepsy over the last three years. The goal this year is at least another $60,000.

The rally is also an appetizer for NewBo Evolve which is now just two weeks away. The music festival on the Sinclair Levee includes Kelly Clarkson, Maroon Five and local favorite Pork Tornadoes. McGurk says fans from at least 28 states have purchased tickets so far.
