Emergency crews are cleaning up after a train derailment caused a railcar to fall into the Mississippi River in Grant County, Wisconsin (just south of Glen Haven, across the river from Guttenberg, Iowa and approximately 40 minutes north of Dubuque) on Monday.

Officials say BNSF Railway reported that approximately 15 cars derailed in the crash and that the apparent cause was a rock/mudslide.

Grant County Emergency Management tells CBS2/FOX 28 News there is no threat to public safety.

US Fish and Wildlife and Wisconsin DNR are assessing environmental impact which appears to be minimal.

BNSF Railway is still assessing the damage but have already moved heavy equipment into the area to begin cleanup.

The public is asked to avoid the area.
