Three people are hurt from a fire at an apartment complex Wednesday morning in Cedar Rapids.

Fire crews first responded to 2131 Blairs Ferry Road at 2:17 a.m.

Officials told CBS2/FOX28 three victims had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Authorities also say multiple people have lost their homes due to the fire.

One witness that spoke to CBS2/FOX28 said he heard several smoke alarms, looked out the window and saw a man running away from the building.

"A guy walked past my window with a gasoline containter and he looked at me and he's like 'uh oh' cause I saw him and he took off down the road," said Tyler Gamble, who lives in one of the units in the building.

Police and fire officials on scene have not confirmed the cause of the fire but did say the case was under investigation.

Gamble said he and his girlfriend were able to escape from the building through a window.

Firefighters were able put out the flames quickly and help everyone else in the apartment get out.
