Strong storms possible Saturday

Strong to severe thunderstorms possible in southeastern portions of the state Saturday

The active weather pattern continues with another round of rain as we start the weekend. A cold front will be moving into eastern Iowa on Friday and pull in warmer air and increase moisture in the area.

A few showers will be possible Friday evening, especially south of Highway 20. Rain chances will stay elevated through the night and into Saturday as the front stalls. Instability will grow and along the front there will be the potential for strong and severe thunderstorms.

Some storms may be capable of producing strong winds, hail, heavy rain and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Rainfall totals will likely be between a half an inch to two inches. The higher amounts look to fall near and south of Highway 20. Rain will wind down Saturday night and cooler air will move in for the end of the weekend.
