Thunderstorms, some strong, likely Thursday
Moisture is moving back into eastern Iowa and that will lay the foundation for showers and thunderstorms Thursday. A storm system will be moving through eastern Iowa and will bring the potential for some strong storms and heavy rain.
Some of those could be severe with a risk for damaging wind gusts in the evening. The main area for concern is along and south of Highway 20. In terms of timing, between 4-8 p.m. appears to be the period of most active weather.
A warm front will lift north and a few showers will be possible early in the day. The greater chance for storms will come in the late afternoon and early evening. Storms should be pretty scattered, but some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. The Great Jones County will be going on Thursday and fair-goers will want to keep an eye on the forecast.
A few showers may linger into Friday morning as the cold front moves through the area. By the time rain is over, some spots may pick up over an inch of rain. It will be dry for the second half of Friday and the rest of the weekend.
