AMES, Iowa — The Iowa Board of Regents has given final approval for a significant increase in tuition at Iowa's three public schools. The approval means a 4.25% across the board increase in tuition for in-state residents. Similar increases were approved for out-of-state tuition, with the University of Iowa requesting a small increase.
The decision comes after the Iowa Legislature, controlled by Republicans, approved a funding increase barely a quarter of what was requested. Leaders say the funding boost did not keep up with rising costs due to inflation.
Here are the new tuition rates for in-state students:
IOWA: $8,711 (+$355)
IOWA STATE: $8,678 (+$345)
UNI: $8,111 (+$331)
