Records were broken before you woke up this morning. Temperatures dropped into the negative 20s across eastern Iowa and broke records for January 30th.
This morning another record was tied in Cedar Rapids. The wind chill got down to -55, which ties the lowest wind chill recorded at the Cedar Rapids airport (-55, in 1985).
More records will likely fall this afternoon as temperatures struggle to rise.
The record cold highs for January 30th will be shattered and we'll take a run at all-time record cold high temperatures today. Then temperatures tank tonight and we'll break more records Thursday morning.
The all-time record low in Cedar Rapids is 29 set in 2009. That record could be replaced by morning.
