All clear given after suspicious package investigation outside of Iowa City school
IOWA CITY, Iowa —
UPDATE (09:35 a.m. Thursday) -
Iowa City Police Department told our CBS2/FOX28 news crew on scene Tate High School has been deemed safe and Mall Drive is back open after a suspicious package was reported.
The package was a box that contained paper products. The labeling was unclear but they are glad they took precautions.
Authorities are investigating a suspicious package at Tate High School in Iowa City.
According to their website, Tate High School decided to cancel classes for Thursday, September 13.
The message on the website says the package was found near the school's entrance and that students should not report to the building today.
All other schools in the Iowa City Community School District are still in session.
Iowa City Police tweeted out Thursday morning that the Johnson County Bomb Team is responding.
Officers closed down Mall Drive, where the school is located, while the investigation continues. Iowa City Police are asking people to stay away from the scene.
