Police: Cedar Rapids man broke into date's car during date

Gregory Morris, charged with third-degree burglary. (Johnson County Jail)

It's safe to say there will be no future dates between a Cedar Rapids man and a woman after he allegedly broke into her car in the middle of a date last month in Iowa City.

A criminal complaint says 35-year-old Gregory Morris was on a date with the victim on Sept. 23 when he left the bar they were at for a parking ramp where the victim's vehicle was parked.

Morris then allegedly used a rock to break a rear window and unlock the door. Police say he took the victim's cell phone, makeup case and $20 from the victim's wallet.

The victim noticed that Morris was gone and went to her car to check on them. She then yelled, "What are you doing?" to Morris, who fled on foot.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, but has since bonded out of the Johnson County Jail.
