CEDAR RAPIDS,Iowa — This week, Nesper Sign Advertising Incorporation will be removing the Quaker Oats neon sign from both sides of the building.
After previous talks with the company and devastating hit from a derecho last August, Nesper started removal of the Quaker Oats neon light signage.
The old sign will be replaced with a new and improved LED environmentally-friendly sign. Project managers say the new sign will use a sixth of the amount of power used to light up the old neon sign.
"It's environmentally more friendly because it doesn't contain any mercury and its safer because its not high voltage," said President of Nesper Sign Advertising Phil Garland. "They are trying to do the right thing for the community."
The sign replacement project is slated to wrap up by summer 2021.
