CEDAR RAPIDS. Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) -- Former Cedar Rapids City Council member Monica Vernon will run for mayor of Cedar Rapids.
Vernon is a former two-term Cedar Rapids city council member, and most recently ran for U.S. Congress as a Democrat. She was defeated by Rep. Rod Blum. She also ran as Lieutenant Governor with Jack Hatch in 2014.
Mayor Ron Corbett announced that he will not run for re-election in 2018 after two terms in office.
Vernon joins Kris Gulick, Brad Hart, Scott Olson, Gary Hinzman and Tim Pridegon in the race for the mayor's office.
