A man is facing charges after hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says they were called to Plumb Supply at 4:04 p.m for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a U-Haul pickup.

Police determined a suspect inside the truck was allegedly involved in a theft at the store. Employees told the driver, 35-year-old Allen Callanan, to stay there while police were called. Callanan then attempted to leave, striking a fence and a 45-year-old employee who was standing on the opposite side of the gate. The employee was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The U-Haul pickup on Aossey Lane SW a short time later. Callanan was found in the 200 block of Wilson Avenue SW.

Callanan is charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and driving while barred.
