PREVIOUS STORY:

A large 24-hour COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held in downtown Cedar Rapids this weekend. County officials say about 1,000 people will be able to get vaccinated at this clinic.

According to a statement from Linn County Public Health, the clinic will be set up at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alliant Energy Convention Center and hosted by Reutzel Pharmacy, in collaboration with the county and the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

“The unique format of the 24-hour clinic over the weekend is intended to provide access to vaccine in a way that these patients might not have had before. Our goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible and get shots in arms to vaccinate Iowa,” said Roger Thompson, Operations Director at Reutzel Pharmacy.

Organizers say the clinic will be open to anyone 16 and older. It will begin at 9 am on Saturday, April 17 and run through 9am on Sunday, April 18.

“Linn County Public Health is excited about this collaborative opportunity with Reutzel Pharmacy and Iowa Pharmacy Association to vaccinate our neighbors,” says Pramod Dwivedi, Linn County Public Health Director. “This is one of the strategies we are using to vaccinate our residents who otherwise may not be able to get the vaccine due to their schedule.”

The Pfizer vaccine will be used a the clinic and the second dose will be offered on May 8, officials say.

Appointments are required and can be made by following one of these methods:

-Call 319-892-6097

-Schedule online: https://www.linncounty.org/1540/Community-Clinics

County health officials say individuals need to be available for vaccination on both dates and appointments cannot be rescheduled.

“Collaboration across the state between pharmacies and public health departments is critical to efficiently immunize our states’ population. Residents in Linn County will benefit from this collaborative event being hosted, with creative strategies to target different populations.” said Kate Gainer, Executive Vice President at the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

Officials say the clinic will be staffed with representatives from Reutzel Pharmacy, Linn County Public Health, and volunteers from the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

The convention center is located at 350 1st Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
