Local eateries ready for Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week

Popoli's is just one of the more than 20 Cedar Rapids restaurants participating in this year's Restaurant Week.

Cedar Rapids restaurants are preparing for one of their busiest weeks of the year.

"Restaurant Week is a great opportunity for people to get exposed to restaurants that they may not have been to before,” said Scott Sukovich, Executive Chef at Popoli’s Ristorante & Sullivan’s Bar.

This year is only Popoli's top chef Scott Sukovich's second year participating, but he's more than up for the challenge of serving everyone.

"It's also an opportunity to show off a little bit about what we can do as specials," said Sokovich.

It's one of many local restaurants' busiest weeks that they start preparing for ahead of time.

"The prep leading up to this is pretty intense--deciding what we're going to want to offer that's not in our regular menu,” explained Sukovich.

Go Cedar Rapids organizes the event in hopes of encouraging people to appreciate all their city has offer.

"We really want you to get out, dine out, and show these restaurants that you very much value the work that they put in to making this city taste so great,” said Taylor McGurk, Director of Destination Development at Go Cedar Rapids.

More than 20 restaurants are participating this year—showing off their skills, entertaining guests, and most importantly recognizing their food producers from around the area.

"The restaurants here go out of their way to work with local farms, local meet and cheese and artisan producers, and the local breweries of course,” said McGurk.

While this week always calls for a lot of work, restaurants can't help but be thrilled for the challenge.

"I find that exciting when we get to venture into different things,” said Sukovich.

Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week starts Thursday, March 15th and goes on until Sunday, March 25th.
