After securing funding, the Willis Dady homeless overflow shelter opened to the public on Saturday, December 1.

The shelter, located at 719 3rd Avenue SE, accommodates 45 people.

"You do want to make that call, and you want to make it as early as possible," said Denine Rushing, the shelter manager. "Because if we do get full, we don't want anyone to be without a bed."

    The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Rushing said the shelter is still in need of donations or volunteers. To apply to become a volunteer, visit this site. To donate, visit this site.
