CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/Fox28) -- A strong winter storm will move through eastern Iowa Monday afternoon through Tuesday. Periods of heavy snow and strong winds will lead to slick streets and low visibility. Winter Storm Warnings go into effect at 3 pm Monday and last until Tuesday evening.
Snow will begin after 3 pm and become heavier and steadier through the evening. Snow will be heavy at times through the night and continue into Tuesday morning.
Roads will get slick during the evening commute and it will be tough for crews to keep up with the constant snowfall overnight. Snow showers will continue Tuesday morning and it will be a messy, slick commute. Several inches of snow will pile up quickly.
There is some uncertainty on the placement of the heaviest snow. Regardless, there will be several inches all across the area, slick roads, and low visibility. As the snow moves out, strong winds will move in and that will lead to blowing and drifting snow through the rest of the day Tuesday. Low visibility and slick roads will once again be an issue during the evening commute.
