Marion police arrest suspect in two stolen car cases
MARION, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) —
UPDATE 1/10/18 7:57 PM: Marion police have arrested a man they say is suspected of stealing two cars in Marion over the past two weeks.
Investigators said Derek Triplett, 33, was arrested after a welfare check at a home on George Dr. just after noon on Wednesday. During the welfare check, officers said they found one of the stolen vehicles in the driveway.
Police were able to get a search warrant and Triplett was found inside the home. He was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Investigators said charges are also pending for a 2012 Ford Escape that was stolen from a Casey's on December 30 and a 2003 Toyota Highlander stolen from the Pizza Hut in Marion on January 7th.
Police also said social media and tips from residents helped them locate and arrest Triplett.
There was a heavy law enforcement presence in a neighborhood in Marion Wednesday afternoon.
Multiple CBS2/FOX28 viewers called asking about what was happening in the Squaw Creek Village Community. Marion Police say they were searching for a wanted person in the area.
Photos sent into CBS2/FOX28 show at least one person in custody.
Several streets were closed during the search for the suspect, but police say they're back open.
