A Clermont man is facing numerous charges after an investigation revealed he sexually abused two girls over a period of several years.

43-year-old Max Stone was arrested last month charged with assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse and providing a controlled substance to a minor.

As authorities investigated the case, they discovered a pattern of sexual abuse involving two juvenile girls. Stone was charged with an additional six counts of sexual abuse in the second degree and six counts of Incest.

Stone was convicted in 1993 of two counts of lascivious acts with a child, so any sentence he may receive if found guilty can be enhanced under Code of Iowa 901A.2 .

Code of Iowa 901A.2 reads as follows:

“a person convicted of a sexually predatory offense which is a felony, who has a prior conviction for a sexually predatory offense, shall be sentenced to and shall serve twice the maximum period of incarceration for the offense, or twenty-five years, whichever is greater, notwithstanding any other provision of the Code to the contrary. A person sentenced under this subsection shall not have the person's sentence reduced under chapter 903A or otherwise by more than fifteen percent.”

Stone is being held in the Fayette County Jail on $30,000 bond and is awaiting an initial appearance on the new charges.
