UPDATE 11/25/19:

Police are identifying the person killed in a crash on Saturday, after officers tried to pull the man over for reckless driving.

Investigators said Scott Maydew, 58, Cedar Rapids died at the scene after hitting a utility pole near Rockford Road SW and Wilson Ave. SW.

A driver was killed Saturday night after the person lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a utility pole in Cedar Rapids.

It happened just before 10 p.m. when a Cedar Rapids Police Officer attempted to perform a traffic stop of a BMW vehicle that was driving recklessly on Rockford Road near 8th Avenue SW.

The suspect vehicle took off at a high rate of speed southbound on Rockford Road SW.

Shortly thereafter, the suspect vehicle lost control and left the roadway in the 2100 block of Rockford Road SW. The vehicle struck a utility pole.

The driver of the vehicle, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The name of the individual, an adult male, is being withheld pending appropriate identification and notification of family members.
