Cedar Rapids Police say they have made their first arrest stemming from an incident in which dozens of people stole and destroyed property inside a Casey’s in northwest Cedar Rapids.

A CRPD spokesperson says they have received more than 60 tips via social media and phone calls since the release of security video earlier this week. They anticipate they will be making several more arrests in the coming days as a result of the influx of information.

The name of the person arrested and charged was not released.

On July 3, about 25-40 went into the Casey's at Ellis and O Avenue NW at 10:23 p.m. on July 3, shortly after the fireworks at Ellis Harbor ended. CRPD says some customers were assaulted by suspects, while other suspects stole merchandise and damaged store property. The store had to close for the night as a result.
