Arrest made for string of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha robberies

Authorities have arrested a man they say is responsible for a string of armed robberies last year.

Police stopped a vehicle in northeast Cedar Rapids Thursday and found 24-year-old Vanice Heath Jr. inside. He was arrested on four warrants of first degree robbery.

Police say he is responsible for the following business robberies:

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017 – 5:44 p.m., Discount Liquor, 2933 1st Ave. SE
  • Monday, November 13, 2017 – 7:28 p.m., Dairy Queen, 2100 6th St. SW
  • Tuesday, November 14, 2017 – Quick Mart, 655 Robins Rd., Hiawatha
  • Wednesday, November 15, 2017 – 10:25 p.m., Smokin’ Joes, 2315 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE

Heath Jr. is being held in the Linn County Jail. Each first-degree robbery charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
