18-year-old, juvenile arrested after armed robbery near UI dorm
IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) —
University of Iowa Police have taken suspects into custody connected to an armed robbery near campus.
A Hawk Alert was sent out Friday morning for two white males with a gun near Burge Residence Hall heading towards downtown.
The female victim said the suspects stole her purse while one of them displayed a gun.
Shortly after the alert was sent out, the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety sent out a tweet saying the suspects had been taken into custody.
18-year-old Andrew Dangler and a 16-year-old were arrested after police were able to track the victim's stolen cell phone to a residence at 1100 Arthur Street. Both admitted to the robbery when confronted by police. The 16-year-old admitted to being the one who pointed the gun. Additionally, the victim was able to identify the suspects.
Police say both Dangler and the 16-year-old were charged with first-degree robbery.
The spring semester at the University ended in early May, but summer classes and orientation are currently ongoing.
