Glasson receives key progressive endorsement in race for Governor

A progressive national organization launched after Senator Bernie Sanders' run for President is now endorsing Cathy Glasson for Iowa Governor. The President of SEIU Local 199 is seeking the Democratic nomination for this year's Governor's race. The registered nurse, who worked in an intensive care unit, is making universal health coverage the main platform of her campaign.

“We are proud to support a progressive candidate like Cathy who has such strong ties to the labor community,” said Shannon Jackson, Executive Director of Our Revolution. “From her work with SEIU, to her activism on issues like raising the minimum wage and providing universal health care, Cathy has set herself apart from the competition. Having lived in Iowa her entire life, Cathy knows the needs of the working class people of all backgrounds. Cathy is a proven leader who will work to ensure all Iowans have access to a good paying job, affordable housing, and quality health care.”

Glasson has reportedly received millions in financial support for her campaign from union groups both inside and outside of Iowa. Besides health coverage for all, Glasson is calling for Iowa to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

“From the beginning of this race, we’ve been working closely with local Our Revolution activists across Iowa to build a new movement to change politics in our state,” Cathy Glasson commented. “I’m honored that our grassroots, people-powered campaign has now earned the national endorsement of Our Revolution. They know that half-measures and tinkering around the edges aren’t going to change politics and open up our government. I couldn’t be happier to have Our Revolution standing shoulder to shoulder with us in this fight.”

Glasson is one of seven Democrats in the race seeking the party's nomination.
