Mount Mercy University adds first doctoral programs
Good evening, Scott. Mount Mercy University announced this week it will begin offering Cedar Rapids’ first doctoral programs this fall.
The school is well-known for its business programs, and will now also offer doctorates in nursing and marriage and family therapy. That will make it one of only three family therapy programs in the state.
The move by Mt. Mercy comes amid growing demand for nurses. Employment in that field is expected to grow by nearly 40 percent by 2026. Those with advanced degrees will be in particularly high demand.
Applications for those programs are due by June 1.
IBC releases Iowa Competitive Dashboard
Iowa has received middling scores on a new business ranking, including a failing grade for diversity.
The Iowa Business Council’s new competitive dashboard aims to compare our business conditions with those of neighboring states. The first edition ranked Iowa as “average” in categories including economic growth, education and health and wellness, but “poor” in demographics and diversity.
The council is now calling for the creation of a public-private partnership that could conduct research and develop policies for improving the state’s diversity.
