DES MOINES, Iowa — The majority of the 2020 Summer Iowa Games have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Organizers say since most sports and activities offered happen in a 'large-scale sports festival' environment, they do not feel it is not safe to host the event.
“The Summer Iowa Games takes months of coordination and a tremendous amount of effort from our staff,” commented Chuck Long, Iowa Games CEO/Executive Director. “There are still many unknowns about COVID-19 and the reopening process so we cannot justify holding the Games as it puts our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and staff at risk.”
Any athletes or participants already registered for an event can expert to be contacted about entry fees.
