Fill the Boot Kicks Off

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) – Motorists in Cedar Rapids might be noticing something a bit out of the ordinary over the next couple days. People asking for money to be put in boots.

Members of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department kicked off their Fill the Boot drive on Wednesday.

Proceeds from the drive benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Last year, Fill the Boot brought in more than $31,000, which organizers hope to top with this year’s drive and the help of the Cedar Rapids community.

"We can come out and stand on the corner and stand on these intersections all we want to,” firefighter, Paul Bagby said. “But without the absolute generosity of the citizens of Cedar Rapids, this could not be possible."

Cedar Rapids has lead all of Iowa in fundraising for the Fill the Boot drive for each of the past 20-years.

If you’d like to help out, firefighters will be out at ten locations through Friday.
