CR Sizzlers Helping Out

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) – When severe storms hit Cedar Rapids earlier this summer, one of the buildings hit hardest was Trinity Lutheran School which lost the roof over its gym and caused enough damage to the gym’s floor that it had to be removed.

But thanks to one group on non-students who also use the gym, its floor is now one step closer to being replaced.

The Cedar Rapids Sizzlers are a Granny Basketball team that uses the Trinity gym to practice for games.

So to help the school and their squad, the team along with donations from their fans and fellow Granny teams from around Iowa managed to raise $1,000 towards helping Trinity replace its gym floor.

"We really, really appreciate Trinity allowing us to use their gym,” Sizzlers player, Lori Neblung said. “I mean, it's a good cause. They needed the money to rebuild the gym floor and we will have a place to practice this fall, so it helps us and it helps them."

The Sizzlers say Trinity is still in need of some help, however. And that people can make donations through Trinity Lutheran School.
