Heart Walk Helping to Make Strides

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) Heart disease is the number one killer of Iowans with about one out of every three deaths in the state.

On Saturday, hundreds gathered at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk.

The event raises money for research  and education for those such as Heart Walk ambassador Tatum Henderson.

Organizers say it's something that touches everyone.

"Im just amazed that the generations that are here we've got some of the youngest people with heart disease, heart defects, and then it spans all generations, Kristy Black said. It's really something that affects everybody, whether it's a family member that's been affected or we have a lot of survivors here today too."

So far, the Heart Walk has helped to raise $80,000 towards their $90,000 goal.
