UWECI Celebrates 100 Years

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Sunday marked a milestone for a group that has helped generations of people right here in the Corridor.

At the Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, The United Way of East Central Iowa celebrated its 100th anniversary.

During the last century, the non-profit organization has grown from only four partner agencies to now having 40.

The United Way says the celebration wasn't just for them, but also for the people who have helped make it what it is today.

"It feels incredible to see the community come out and support this," United Way Centennial co-chair, Matt Evans said. "It just shows you what kind of special place we live in and how people give back and care for all the needs that are unmet in our community."

The East Central Iowa chapter is the United Way's second largest organization in the state and serves five counties to help communities meet their most critical needs.
