Police Chief Resigns Amid Investigation
DUNKERTON, IA (AP) -- The longtime police chief in the northeast Iowa city of Dunkerton has resigned about a week after being placed on administrative leave.
Mayor Edward Jessen announced during Tuesday's City Council meeting that Police Chief Tim Schultz had resigned.
The council had put Schultz on administrative leave Aug. 11 amid an investigation into use of a city credit card.
The council had planned to hold a private meeting to discuss the investigation followed by a public discussion of the matter, but members dropped the issue after Jessen's announcement.
Schultz had worked in the police department for 25 years.
Jessen says the matter has been referred to the state auditor's office.
The City Council will discuss options for hiring a new police chief in September.
