Flood Recovery Comes to Campaign Trail

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - The debate over the state's flood protection has become a hot topic this campaign season.
On Tuesday, Lieutenant Gubernatorial candidate Monica Vernon will respond to Governor Branstad's views on flood recovery.
Radio Iowa reports that in a debate last week, Branstad said he opposed the idea of continuing to borrow from the government to recover from disaster.
He said that Iowans don’t like the idea of going into debt.
This morning, Vernon will hold a conference to respond to that plan.
Her and candidate Jack Hatch’s campaign defends the decision to borrow to rebuild; specifically sighting former Governor Culver's response to the floods of 2008.
The conference will be held at 9am at the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
