Iowa Fourth Grader Praised Hero

CHARLES CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -A young Iowa boy got a big surprise from his school last week for going above and beyond for a friend.
10-year-old Jared Cook was told that he and all of his classmates were going to an assembly about proper school etiquette; little did he know, he was walking into a ceremony put together to honor him.
Teachers and students from Charles City Washington Elementary gathered to praise Jared for helping his friend, Gunner, who was struck by lightning while on a fishing trip.
Gunner says his friend was the first one to call for help during that frightening moment and that he probably saved his life.
Jared says he was just doing what was right.
The Iowa State Patrol heard about Jared's act of kindness and presented a letter to him, recognizing his courage.
School leaders also presented cook with a super hero shirt.
