Iowa Farmers Worry About Bottom Line

CLEAR LAKE, IA (CBS2/FOX28) – The Iowa corn crop is doing better than a lot of farmers expected.
Experts say the summer 2014 yield could be the most promising we've seen recent years.
But some Iowa farmers are still worried about their bottom lines.
That’s because the more corn that’s available to customers, the less demand there is and that means buyers don't have to shell out as much.
Add that to the roller coaster weather conditions farmers had to deal with which forced them to spend more to keep up.
Right now, Iowa farmers say they expect to get about $3.71 per bushel of corn.
On average some farmers say they break even at $4.50.
For now farmers will have to make the most out of the last few weeks of the season and wait and see what the market has in store.
