Road Trippin' Burlington Capitol Theater

BURLINGTON, IA – (CBS2/FOX28)  In some communities they already met the wrecking ball, in others they’re condos or rec centers or heaven forbid, bars.  At the turn of the last century, grand theaters graced the main streets of even some of the smallest Midwestern towns.  But as the golden days of movie houses faded in the 1970s, it left many communities with a difficult choice, bulldoze the memories or step up to raise a large amount of money to restore and preserve those decaying palaces.  In Burlington, it took more than three decades, but today The Capitol Theater is a shining example of what can be accomplished by people who are passionate about their past.  Today, the ceiling that was falling in is a beautiful beacon that makes everyone look skyward as they enter.  The stage that caved in is bigger and better and the areas where falling paint and plaster became an eyesore are now perfectly returned to their days of glory.  The Capitol stage now offers an eclectic mix of theater productions, live music and even extravagant weddings.  But it’s also never forgotten its roots and still shows a wide variety of hit movies, indy films and one-of-a-kind documentaries six days a week.
Come along as we take you ROAD TRIPPIN’ to a river town that’s recaptured some of its magic with a return engagement by The Capitol Theater !
