Students Furnish Dorms by Registering

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - In just a few weeks, thousands of college kids will be packing their bags and heading off to their dorms but many now have a surprising new way to make the transition a bit easier, or at least, less expensive.
There has been so much said about the sky-high cost of college tuition these days but what about all the other costs? Moving into a dorm means buying what you need to make your new room feel like home.
Now some college kids are taking a cue from engaged couples and expectant moms--and setting up gift registries.
Target and The Container Store are just two of the companies helping kids sign up for shower caddies, bedding supplies and other cool dorm room accessories and apparently the trend is catching on.
According to The Container Store, registries for college-bound students outpaced wedding registries last year for the first time ever, making up 57-percent of registries created at the company.
