Residents Attend Second Envision CR
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28)--Cedar Rapids city leaders are once again asking residents for input for the city's future.
They are doing it through an Envision CR open house.
"I've lived here since the late 50s,” said resident, Jan Watkins,
That’s why she’s here, to see the city she calls home continue to grow.
"The new library has been an exciting development certainly, and the amphitheater, the new hotel, I like it all,” Jan said, but she'd also like more.
"I also have an interest in the development of Cedar Lake, because I walk it several times a week."
This is where she and other residents get to give feedback, at the Envision CR open house.
"People want to have their input as to what goes on. They want to see what they are planning they want to find out is this going to be for the good of Cedar Rapids,” said Elwood Garlock, another resident.
"Really it's an opportunity to bring out the main objectives of those plans to the community and say are we still on the right track. Is this the direction we want to go,” said Jennifer Pratt, Interim Director for Community Development.
Some of the plans include changes to transportation options as well as building more parks and amenities in the area.
"There's also been a lot of emphasis on just diversity. and through all different things from housing...as well as what the look of the city is,” Pratt said, because the goal is to create a greater quality of life in Cedar Rapids.
For Jan, that's a sign that the city is moving in the right direction.
"As far as I can tell yes. As far as I can tell,” she said.
This is the second set of Envision CR open houses this year. The plan is to hold another one sometime in October or November.
