Runaway Boy Injured after Stealing Truck

DUBUQUE, IA (AP) - A boy who ran away from a Dubuque juvenile facility has been hospitalized after he stole a county road department pickup and crashed it into a utility pole.

The boy left Hillcrest Family Services and took the truck shortly after noon on Wednesday. Police say the boy, whose age was not immediately released, had minor injuries. The Associated Press does not name juveniles accused of a crime. Police say multiple charges are likely to be filed.

The crash shut down a portion of a busy road for about three hours as police investigated, causing traffic to back up.

Police were looking for the boy when several calls were made from the public about a reckless driver in a truck.
