Four Youth Earn Waterloo Caring Citizen Award

WATERLOO, IA (CBS2/FOX28) The Waterloo Police Department honored four area youth with the departments Caring Citizen Award.

Waterloo residents Caly Cizek, Katelyn Ryan, and Dylan Glawe were honored, along with Kurtis Stabenow, of Denver, IA.

Police say on June 19, an 8-year-old child fell into the floodwaters at Bontrager Park and was being swept toward an intake drain. Cizek reached down to the child, who was caught in a strong current. Cizek and Glawe held onto the child until Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived.

Katelyn Ryan and Kurtis Stabenow were in the area of the park when they noticed the child fall into the strong current of the floodwaters. Stabenow called 911 to report the incident, as both he and Ryan ran to help Cizek.
