Grassley Urging Obama for Disaster Funds

WASHINGTON, D.C (CBS 2/FOX 28) Senator Chuck Grassley has sent an open letter to President Barack Obama is grant a request from Governor Terry Branstad to approve federal funds for 26 Iowa Counties hit hard by Junes storms.

Grassley says the damage from those storms is beyond the capabilities of the state and local governments to handle effectively.

Storms in the 26 counties are estimated to have caused more than $11-million in damage that could be eligible for federal assistance.

To be able to receive federal funds, President Obama must first declare areas as major disasters.
