Fire Destroys E. Iowa Railroad Bridge

DUBUQUE, IA (AP) -- Authorities say a fire has completely destroyed a railroad bridge in eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River.
The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says multiple departments responded to the Monday fire near the Massey Station. Crews extinguished the blaze several hours later after battling it from boats.
Giant plumes of smoke were reported in the area.
The sheriff's office says welders were working on the bridge about a half hour before the fire started. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
