Harkin Impressed By 2008 Flood Recovery

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - With his retirement just around the corner, Iowa senator Tom Harkin is back in his home state.

On Friday, Harkin toured Cedar Rapids and was able to see firsthand the recovery the city has made since the 2008 floods.

Some of Friday's stops included the McGrath Amphitheater and the flood wall at Quaker Oats.

On the city's recovery, Harkin says he was blown away by the progress one town can make in just six short years.

"It's amazing when you think about it," Harkin said. "The magnitude of the job that was there after the flood. Everything that needed to be done in five years, my gosh, that's what impresses me is that how much has been done."

Senator Harkin will spend the weekend traveling throughout Iowa before concluding his visit on Sunday in Dubuque.
