Bridge Construction Ahead of Schedule

DUBUQUE, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Drivers who have spent the last couple days in traffic because of the Julien Dubuque bridge construction will only have to idle a little longer.
Transportation officials say repairs to the bridge are ahead of schedule and it could open sooner than expected.
The bridge connects Iowa to Illinois and was closed Monday for repairs, those were expected to take ten days, however officials now say the good weather and threat of a fine if repairs are not done by August first have resulted in quick work. If the company doesnt finish the work on time, they will face paying $20,000 for every day they work past the 1st.
Transportation leaders say the bridge should open a couple of days early.
Until it is reopened, Iowans are being forced to take the Dubuque Wisconsin bridge and drive down to Illinois.
